Lombard's 2020 Senior Man, Woman of the Year winners announced
The Village of Lombard's 2020 Senior Man of the Year is Dennis Jensen and the 2020 Senior Woman of the Year is Carol Anderson.
Dennis Jensen served his country in the armed forces and continues to serve the Lombard community by dedicating his time as the Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Lilac Post 5815. Jensen, who has lived in Lombard for 45 years, has also served on the planning committees for the village's Veteran's Day and Memorial Day Events. He is very active with Sacred Heart Catholic Church and is a member of the German Fest Committee. He has also been a Past Grand Knight of Father Boecker Knights of Columbus Council 6090. Dennis and his wife, Frances, have been married for 48 years and raised their three children in Lombard.
The 2020 Senior Woman of the Year is Carol Anderson. Her family moved to Lombard in 1948 and she has been a Lombard resident for 72 years. As a child, Anderson remembers walking through the clay pits on her way to Hammerschmidt School. She was nominated for her support of the Lombard community, where she raised her two children with her late husband, Glen. As one of the founding members of the Lombard Christmas Mart, Anderson helped organize this beloved community tradition 11 years ago. She currently runs the sewing and quilting group at St. John's Lutheran Church, where she makes masks for donation.
Nominees also included Ron Adams, Ed Seagraves, and Sue Balsamo.
"We are happy to honor Dennis, Carol, and these amazing nominees who have given so much to our community," said Trustee Dan Militello, chair of the Community Relations Committee, which oversees the Village's Senior of the Year Program. "These individuals shine with the spirit of our village and represent what it means to be a Lombardian."
The Community Relations Committee consists of Chairperson Dan Militello, Alternate Chairperson Trustee William Ware, and committee members, Ahmed Ali, Pamela Bedard, Kristin Kielma, Michael Ledonne, Sharon Vish, Barb Ware, Gladys Piper and Anthony Pacilli.
