Elmhurst to bring Santa parade through neighborhoods Dec. 17

Santa and his holiday friends are coming to Elmhurst neighborhoods on Thursday, Dec. 17. The rain date will be Friday, Dec. 18.

St. Nick has asked to use city vehicles to bring you the joy of the holiday season safely and close to your home.

The City of Elmhurst Hometown Holiday Parade will ride through town between 4 and 5:30 p.m.

The route will cover 16 miles of Elmhurst, with vehicles passing through each ward and will start at 4 p.m.

The route begins and ends at the Elmhurst American Legion T.H.B. Post 187, 310 W. Butterfield Road. For the parade route, visit www.elmhurst.org.

Santa and his friends will not be stopping or getting out of vehicles. This is a short parade with approximately 10 city vehicles.

If your home is on the route, please consider parking your car at the end of your driveway.

You can turn your flashers on and wave as the parade goes by.

The route is within a quarter mile walk from most any home in Elmhurst and will traverse many open public parking lots.

Feel free to take a walk to the route or find a public parking lot on the route to park your vehicle and watch the holiday parade.

Remember to practice proper social distancing and safety measures. Stand at least 6 feet apart from one another and wear face masks.

Live Santa parade updates will be posted on the city's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/cityofelmhurst/.

A virtual viewing will be posted on the city's YouTube page, ElmhurstTV the following day.

The city is also taking Mitten Tree donations through Dec. 31. Help kids, teens, and adults stay warm this winter by donating gloves, mittens, scarves and socks. Fasten your donations on the Christmas tree in the center foyer of city hall, 209 N. York St. Clothes pins are in the basket at the fire department administration counter. Mittens, socks, scarves and gloves will be distributed by Yorkfield Food Pantry in Elmhurst.
