North Aurora man faces child porn charges

A North Aurora man has been charged with possession of child pornography.

Michael R. Pauls, 48, of the 600 block of Hammer Lane, was arrested Thursday, according to North Aurora police.

He is charged with two counts of possession of a child pornography video and two counts of possession of child pornography photographs.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a tip June 25 from an email provider that an email account contained suspected child pornography. The case was sent to the Illinois attorney general's office and then to the Aurora Police Department. Aurora police determined the owner of the account lived in North Aurora, according to a news release from the North Aurora Police Department.

Pauls' home was searched on Thursday. Police took cellular phones and tablet and laptop computers that they say contained two pornographic videos and two pornographic photos of girls under the age of 18.

He is free on $7,500 bond. A judge ordered him to have no contact with anyone under the age of 13, and he is prohibited from using social media where children are present.

Pauls' is next due in court Jan. 28.
