District 207 fundraiser crosses $100,000 threshold
A fundraiser benefiting Maine Township High School District 207 families struggling financially during the COVID-19 pandemic has crossed the $100,000 threshold, officials announced this week.
The project began in March and benefits families of Maine East, Maine South and Maine West high school students and employees.
Donations are used to buy $50 gift cards from businesses that provide groceries, food or household items. Merchants include Walmart, Target, Aldi and Jewel.
Cards are distributed to families and staff who are identified by school administrators.
"The families are so grateful," Maine West High School Associate Principal Claudia Rueda-Alvarez said. "That gratitude is a reminder that many of us are in very secure places, but a lot of our families are not."
