Women's Club of Inverness continues to make a difference

In these challenging times, the Women's Club of Inverness is continuing to work hard to meet its mission of contributing to the community and fundraising for scholarships and assistance to community agencies.

This fall, Women's Club of Inverness has been engaged in a number of activities to benefit the community.

Reading program

In conjunction with worldwide Make a Difference Day in October, Women's Club of Inverness members donned costumes for an online reading program for local elementary school students. The project was intended to support the community by reading to children and giving parents a brief respite.

A Christmas reading event will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, for children ages 4-12. Women's Club of Inverness members will be reading "The Polar Express" and "How the Grinch Stole Christmas."

Adopt a Family

Women's Club of Inverness has adopted five local families for holiday gift giving through Palatine Township. Members will fill the wish lists of the children in the families and will give gift cards to their parents.

Food drive

Members recently participated in a food drive to benefit the food pantry at Palatine Opportunity Center. An additional food drive will occur in December in coordination with the Palatine Opportunity Center's Christmas dinner program.

Fundraising

Women's Club of Inverness has traditionally focused on a major fundraising event in both fall and spring. With the COVID crisis, these events had to be canceled. Women's Club of Inverness is currently exploring alternate possible fundraising events. Presently, an interactive online event is being planned for February.

Meetings

Meetings are now being held on Zoom. Women's Club of Inverness continues to welcome new members who have an interest in community involvement and contribution.

Women's Club of Inverness, a nonprofit 501(c) (3) organization, has depended on the generosity of the community for more than 50 years to accomplish its philanthropic mission to address the needs of women, children, families, seniors and students. The club has given more than $1 million to local community agencies and scholarships.
