MHS sophomore selected for Northwestern program

Submitted by Mundelein High School District 120

Mundelein High School sophomore Jasmyne Ouimet has been invited to participate in a two-year STEM program, Northwestern Medicine Discovery Program, a selective program that caps at 20 Lake County high school student members.

Ouimet will attend once-a-month sessions led by Northwestern Medicine health professionals covering topics such as neurosurgery, oncology, life skills, professional development and community service. Ouimet hopes the program will help clarify her goals.

"I'm hoping this program will help me come closer to determining what career I'll have in the future," she said.

In the short term, Ouimet will utilize the mentors to seek advice for course selection.

"I'd like insight from health professionals about which classes would be best for me to take next year as a junior in order to pursue a career in medicine."
