Second man arrested in Gurnee-area murder

A second person has been charged in connection with the May 29 murder of a 21-year-old man in unincorporated Lake County near Gurnee.

Lake County Sheriff's police said Jordae Wilson, 19, of the 2500 block of Jackson Street in Waukegan, was "closely involved" in the robbery and murder of Elliott Jones of the 36900 block of North Grandwood Drive.

According to Lake County Sheriff's Sgt. Christopher Covelli, an arrest warrant for first-degree murder was drafted for Wilson on Sept. 24. The warrants team developed information that Wilson was hiding in the Atlanta, Georgia, area but he could not be immediately located.

This past Sunday, Wilson was pulled over by authorities while driving in Kenosha, police said. He was taken into custody and found to be in possession of a firearm, according to Covelli.

Wilson is in the Kenosha County Jail pending extradition.

Also charged in Jones' death is Donterrance M. Nixon, 22, of the 600 block of Lenox Avenue, Waukegan. Nixon was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and remains in the Lake County jail on $3 million bail. His next court date is Dec. 11.

According to Covelli, Nixon was an acquaintance of Jones and offered to sell Jones marijuana. Wilson and Nixon planned to rob Jones and arranged a meeting with him, he added.

Nixon arrived at Jones' house about 9:50 p.m. May 29 and Jones walked to the vehicle where Nixon was seated, Covelli said. Nixon robbed Jones of the cash he was going to use to buy the marijuana, according to Covelli.

At that point, the driver of the vehicle began to drive away as Jones tried to open the car door to retrieve his stolen money, Covelli said, and an occupant in the vehicle shot Jones.

Covelli would not say whether Wilson was that occupant. Authorities are awaiting court proceedings before releasing specifics of who pulled the trigger, Covelli said.
