DNA testing needed to identify 3 males killed in fiery crash

LOGANSPORT, Ind. (AP) - The bodies of three males killed Wednesday in a fiery crash in northern Indiana will undergo DNA testing before the victims can be positively identified, authorities said.

Police said Thursday the three victims died Wednesday night in Logansport when a Toyota Camry traveled off a roadway along the Wabash River, struck several trees and became engulfed in flames, the (Logansport) Pharos-Tribune reported.

Cass County Sheriff Ed Schroder called the crash a 'œhorrible accident" and said that while authorities have tentatively identified the three males killed in the crash, DNA testing must be completed in order to positively identify the bodies.

Schroder said the crash investigation led to parents reporting that their children had not returned home the previous night. He estimated that the victims ranged in age from 16 to 23, but their identities cannot be released until DNA testing is completed.

'œWe think we're pretty close,'ť he said.

Logansport is about 75 miles (120 kilometers) north of Indianapolis.
