On Nov. 13, Chris Ellis offered a rebuttal on how the Senate treated Obama when confirming judges. The Republican-led Senate was not overwhelmingly supportive of Obama's nominees. I think Mr. Ellis' numbers and percentages for Obama's overall success were probably accurate: 222 (68%) confirmed. However, what he doesn't go into is that during the two years before Republicans took control of the Senate, Obama had a confirmation success rate of nearly 90%. Afterward (2015-2016), the rate fell to 28%. I believe this is how Mr. Ellis came up with the misleading 68% success rate. Subsequently, there were 105 vacancies unfilled at the end of Obama's term due to the McConnell-led Senate. The before and after Republican majority rates of success are shown on the PolitiFact website.
