Maple Park woman scammed out of $3,000

A Maple Park woman reported that $3,000 was stolen from her Nov. 5 in a scam, according to a Kane County sheriff's report.

The woman said she received an email purportedly from Amazon saying a $6,000 television set was going to be delivered. When she called the number in the email to report she had not bought the TV, a person told her she had to send money, via the Zelle app, so it could locate the people who had compromised her account. When she said she couldn't use Zelle, the people told her to buy $3,000 in Target, eBay and Google Play gift cards, photograph the cards and send the photos to them.
