Grayslake history presentation
The Grayslake Historical Society will present a program Wednesday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m., about the 1918 Influenza Pandemic that killed more than 670,000 Americans and up to 50 million people worldwide.
The program, which will be presented by historical society board member Jane Trump, will be streamed on Facebook Live and can be viewed Wednesday or later by using bit.ly/Grayslake1918. It is not necessary to have a Facebook account to view the program.
"It will be no surprise that the story I'll tell is overall a sad one," Trump said, "but it also has its share of drama and colorful characters."
One was Red Faber, the ace White Sox pitcher who ran the Grayslake bowling alley and tavern from 1939 to 1946. Influenza played a significant role in his career, Trump said.
