Veterans Day irony

According to the internet, 7.3% of Americans served in the Armed Forces. So it is safe to say that number is true also for government employees. Yet, all the federal employees get Veterans Day day off. I was drafted in 1969 and sent overseas and then worked in the trades for 45 years, yet did not get one lousy hour off for Veterans Day in my life. Doesn't seem fair does it?
