Kane County pumpkin recycling

Kane County and the Northern Illinois Food Bank are offering a free pumpkin recycling event from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Nov. 7, at: the Pushing the Envelope Farm, 1700 Averill Road in Geneva; St. Charles Public Works, 1405 S. Seventh Ave.; and Hawthorne Hill Nature Center, 28 Brookside Drive, Elgin. They will take pumpkins (carved or whole), decorative squashes and gourds, corn stalks, hay bales or any other organic materials used as fall décor. The items must be free of candles, yarn hair, stickers, googly eyes, plastic ears, plastic of any kind, or excessive amounts of paint. Find more locations at scarce.org/pumpkins.
