One killed, one seriously injured in Waukegan crash

Waukegan police say one person was killed and another seriously injured in a crash Friday evening in Waukegan.

Police responded about 7:20 p.m. to the area of McAree Road and Sycamore Drive, according to a news release from the Waukegan Police Department.

Investigators believe a 2014 Chevrolet Cruz was traveling north on McAree Road when it drove into the opposite lane and struck a 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse.

The drivers were both Waukegan men in their 20s. The driver of the Chevrolet died from his injuries and his identity is being held pending family notification. The driver of the Mitsubishi was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, but is expected to survive, according to the release. There were no passengers in either car.

Police believe neither driver was wearing a seat belt, but the crash remains under investigation.
