Carpentersville home suffers extensive damage in fire

Carpentersville Fire Department officials say a single-family house on 200 block of Sioux Avenue suffered extensive damage from a fire that took almost an hour Sunday to extinguish.

Firefighters were called to the house just after 5 p.m. and reported heavy fire and smoke showing upon arrival.

The residents of the house had safely evacuated before firefighters arrived. They were uninjured, and fire officials said no firefighters were hurt battling the blaze.

The fire was determined to be accidental. Firefighters remained on scene for nearly four hours to take care of hot spots and perform salvage operations.

Officials estimated the fire caused roughly $175,000 in damage. The house was deemed uninhabitable.
