An extremist lawmaker
The Daily Herald endorsed Tom Morrison to represent the 54th district. Mine is a unique perspective on this race: I was Tom's neighbor for many years.
Tom's beliefs are extreme. One Halloween Tom gave out Chick Tracts. A Chick Tract is a cartoon pamphlet used to graphically preach about hell and salvation; in with my 5-year old's candy ... telling him he was damned. Makes you wonder what other beliefs lurk behind Tom's smile and "tax fighter" facade?
You don't have to wonder too long. Tom is the state chair for the American Legislative Exchange Council - ALEC. ALEC, according to its website, promotes "limited governance, free markets and federalism." ALEC claims its members "represent 60 million Americans and provide jobs to 30 million people in the United States." ALEC wants you to believe they are like-minded, working across the aisle, public servants. They aren't. ALEC's executive council is made up of corporate lobbyists who want one thing in the guise of "limited governance, free markets and federalism" - no regulations and a free ride for the super rich, at the expense of everyone and everything else.
When all is said and done, Tom really doesn't represent anyone in the district. Tom's allegiance is to a bunch of corporate lobbyists in Virginia and a cruel misunderstanding of scripture here at home.
