Don't stop now ...

Hopefully, in a few weeks, a kinder, gentler administration will replace the current narcissistic bully and his hateful tweets, egregious lies and sycophantic associates. While we should celebrate, we cannot rest.

The pandemic will require a coordinated federal effort and a World War II, Rosie The Riveter mentality. Unless we all take responsibility for keeping each other safe, many more Americans will die.

Systemic racism can be overcome by aggressive economic programs and legislation forbidding redlining. All people can participate in accumulating wealth if education and job training are available, particularly in the fields of infrastructure improvements - long overdue - and the burgeoning green power industry. Police departments also need better training in de-escalation and handling the mentally ill.

The Affordable Care Act must be preserved. If there are improvements to be made, so be it, but the plan can't be eliminated when there is no viable plan which will replace it. Claims that progress has been made in lowering drug prices seem unsubstantiated and "The Gap," which Congress was going to eliminate six or seven years ago, still exists.

Immigration reform continues to cause unrest and a solution must be agreed to.

Members of Congress need to relearn voting on the merits of a bill, not on which party proposed it. Reasonable term limits need to be adopted. Politicians should be elected to be public servants for a portion of their careers, not to make a multimillion-dollar career of their service.
