Two more suspects charged in 2017 death of Davenport man

DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) - Two suspects from Illinois were charged Tuesday with first-degree murder in a 2017 shooting death in Davenport.

Darryl Merritt, 24, of Cahokia, Illinois, and Dyon Thomas, 22, of East St. Louis, Illinois, were charged in the death of 18-year-old Demetrius Allen Jr. in Davenport on March 2, 2017.

Both men are state prison inmates and will be extradited to Scott County, The Quad City Times reported.

Chontez Lamont Graham, 24, of Jefferson City, Missouri, was charged last week with first-degree murder, first-degree robbery and flight to avoid prosecution in Allen's death. He was returned to Davenport on Friday.

Prosecutors say the three suspects shot and robbed Allen.

Graham was charged in March 2017 with two counts of first-degree murder, one count of intentional homicide of an unborn child and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon in the Sept. 4, 2016, deaths of Anthony Pannell Jr. 24, and Amber Baiser, 23, and the death of her fetus, in Washington Park, Illinois.

Graham admitted his involvement to police but his confession was thrown out because investigators did not respond to his request for an attorney. In July, an Illinois appeals court upheld the decision to throw out Graham's confession.
