Keep Electoral College

The Presidential election of 2020 may be the last one using the current distribution of votes by the Electoral College. The number of electoral votes is equal to the number of senators and representatives each state has plus three for Washington, D.C. The 2020 census will probably result in a reapportionment of the 435 members of the House of Representatives, and any change would happen before the next presidential election.

The Electoral College was created to balance the voting power of states with different population densities, and the 2016 election proved the theory worked when Donald Trump did not win the popular vote. This is not the first time that has happened, but the increased media coverage made it more widely discussed with some wanting to abolish the Electoral College. I believe that is not a good idea.

What is the future of the Electoral College? First, nothing will change for the 2020 presidential election. Second, realize Donald Trump may be reelected. Third, understand the Electoral College is not perfect, but a popular vote election would be more unfair. Fourth, stop calling me names, I have probably called worse. Fifth, you can find "proof" for any part of the discussion about the Electoral College you want. I have read totally conflicting "facts" in multiple articles. Sixth, losers are always going to complain (see the third comment above).

Where do I stand on the Electoral College? I believe it was the best imperfect compromise the country could agree on. Since this only affects a national election, the federal government should mandate all states move to proportional voting for the Electoral College, and that could be done before the 2024 election.
