Confident in mail voting
League of Women Voters of Naperville understands the concern many voters have about the new expanded vote by mail procedures in Illinois; there have been many changes to how we vote. So last week, we went to check it out in person.
We met with the DuPage Deputy Clerk to take a tour of the DuPage vote by mail processing system, and then we went to Will County, where the county clerk's chief of staff gave a tour. We checked out everything from ballot boxes being emptied to high-speed sorting machines, signature verification, bipartisan teams of election judges, ballot preparation and ballot security. Everything is running smoothly and is secure.
Our earlier conversations with the U.S. Postal Service were equally reassuring; the sanctity of mail is paramount to the USPS. Ballots arriving at post offices are kept separate from all other mail and are delivered promptly to the county election authorities.
Naperville voters in Will County and DuPage County can be confident that their vote by mail ballots will be processed correctly and securely. Voters can track their ballot's progress through the system by signing up for BallotTrax in DuPage County at https://dupage.ballottrax.net/voter/, or by going to the county clerk's website in Will County, https://www.thewillcountyclerk.com/elections/voter-services/vote-by-mail-lookup/#
