Congressman Schneider launches 'Brad's Bookworms' for young readers

As National Book month begins, Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) announced the launch of the fourth year of "Brad's Bookworms," a program to encourage reading and learning for elementary-age students and their families.

Last year, 400 students across the district read 4,000 books with the help from the community.

Children participating in the program are asked to read 10 books with help from parents, grandparents, older siblings or other family members between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31 and track their progress toward this goal.

Young people who meet the goal of 10 books will be invited with their families to a virtual recognition ceremony with Schneider in early 2021 to celebrate their achievement.

Students are also invited to take part in a contest to design a bookmark, and copies of the winning bookmark will be distributed to all children who complete the reading goal.

Those with questions about participating are encouraged to call the Lincolnshire office at (847) 383-4870 or email Alvaro.Melara@mail.house.gov.

More information about the Brad's Bookworms program, including links to the reading log sheet, bookmark contest template, and parent permission slip, is available at schneider.house.gov/bookworms.
