Lake County extends open burning rules
A temporary emergency ordinance allowing open burning in unincorporated Lake County has been extended to Dec. 31. Open burning had been banned May 12 due to concerns about the coronavirus. But in August, the Lake County Board voted to allow burning on limited days.
Besides extending the deadline, the latest revision allows open burning from sunrise to sunset any day of the week, if the burning occurs at least 500 feet from the nearest habitable structure. The ordinance accommodates landscape maintenance on larger properties every day of the week and allows for recreational fires with conditions.
