Boys golf: Elgin Academy, IC's Atendido champs at Class 1A sectional

Led by rounds of 79 from Alex Berlin and Nikiel Karna, the Elgin Academy boys golf team shot a 333 Wednesday to win the Class 1A Peru St. Bede sectional at Spring Creek Golf Course in Spring Valley.

IC Catholic Prep's Jann Atendido was the individual champion, shooting a 6-over par 78 and nosing out Westminster Christian's Jackson Hulsey by a single stroke.

Also supporting Elgin Academy's winning effort were John Yavari (78) and Jonathan Vogt (88).

IC Catholic finished fifth in the 10-team field with a 354. Nick Zanoni had an 86 for the Knights, while Luke Tardiff shot a 93 and Johnny Hilgart 97.
