Police release suspect, no charges in Villa Park woman's death
Police released a person from custody Wednesday after determining a Villa Park woman fatally stabbed and shot herself on the Northwest Side of Chicago, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
Chicago police said earlier Wednesday charges were pending in the death of the 41-year-old woman who was found critically injured early Tuesday morning. They said in a brief statement they responded at 12:27 a.m. to a call for help at a residence on the 5100 block of North Newland Avenue.
Officers discovered the woman with multiple stab wounds and a gunshot wound to the mouth.
She was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge in critical condition, but she was pronounced dead a short time later, officials said.
Police said a person of interest was taken in for questioning. Two knives and a gun were recovered from the scene.
A police "investigation revealed this was a suicide, so the person they were questioning was released without charging," Chicago police spokeswoman Michelle Tannehill said in an email to the Sun-Times later Wednesday.
Autopsy results were still inconclusive Wednesday afternoon.
