Ederson replaces Alisson for Brazil's World Cup qualifiers

SAO PAULO (AP) - Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson will replace injured Liverpool stopper Alisson in Brazil's squad for its two opening World Cup qualifiers.

The Brazilian Football Confederation announced the move.

Alisson did not play when Liverpool was thrashed by Aston Villa 7-2 in the English Premier League. Coach Jurgen Klopp said Alisson was injured in training.

Brazil coach Tite will choose between Ederson, Palmeiras' Weverton and Athletico's Santos for the two matches. He had already lost another starter, Gabriel Jesus, to injury.

Brazil begins training on Monday outside Rio de Janeiro. Its World Cup qualifying campaign begins on Friday against Bolivia in Sao Paulo. On Oct. 13, the Brazilians will face Peru in Lima.
