Elgin man convicted of attacking woman

A 36-year-old Elgin man faces a possible prison term after a Kane County jury convicted him of attacking a woman, authorities said in a news release Monday.

Damian A. Failla, who is homeless, faces a sentence of two and 10 years after being convicted Oct. 1 of aggravated battery in a public way. He also could be sentenced to probation.

The attack stemmed from a running dispute Sept. 24, 2019, between Failla and the victim, according to authorities. Later that day, Failla again saw the victim and the two exchanged words. The victim walked away, Failla followed, then struck her repeatedly on the head, according to the release.

He has been held in the Kane County jail since his arrest on $50,000 bail. The judge revoked Failla's bond after the conviction.

Failla's next scheduled court appearance is Dec. 1 for motions and sentencing.
