Endorsement: Chris Kachiroubas for DuPage County circuit court clerk.

In the race for DuPage County circuit court clerk, Democratic challenger Candice Adams is trying to unseat longtime Republican incumbent Chris Kachiroubas of Elmhurst.

Adams, a Lisle attorney, is a strong candidate for the office, which is responsible for maintaining local court records.

If elected, Adams says she would work to ensure that everyone has meaningful access to the court system. She also has several ideas for improving training and modernizing technology.

For example, she would like to create a website where the public can view motions and other documents related to a court case. Right now, online access to those records is restricted to lawyers, judges and other authorized users.

But Kachiroubas has an impressive record of improving the office.

Since he was first elected in 2004, he has made it possible for residents to file online for orders of protection and pay some traffic fines electronically. His office also was first in the state to require electronic filing of all civil documents.

And when the state required DuĀPage to transition to a new e-filing system, Kachiroubas made sure the circuit court clerk's office completed the task by a July 2019 deadline.

Kachiroubas says there's "so many other things to do" with another four years in office.

We'd like to see where he takes the office next. Kachiroubas is endorsed.
