Announcement of election for park commissioner of the Wheeling Park District

Wheeling Park District will be accepting Nominating Petitions from December 14 through December 21, 2020, for four (4), four-year term Park Commissioner seats. The office of Commissioner is an elected position with no financial remuneration. Commissioners will be selected by vote of the community in the Consolidated Election to be held on Tuesday, April 6, 2021.

To qualify for the office of Commissioner, an individual must be a registered voter who has resided within the Wheeling Park District boundaries for at least one year prior to the election. A person in arrears in the payment of a tax or other indebtedness due to the Park District or convicted of any infamous crime, bribery, perjury, or other felony in any court located in the United States is ineligible to serve as a Park Commissioner.

The Board of Park Commissioners meets formally at 7 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of each month for regular board meetings, and for special meetings when necessary. A minimum time commitment of ten hours is reasonable to expect during a typical month, but it may vary as needed. The Wheeling Park District Board has enacted an attendance ordinance that stipulates if any member of the Board fails to be present at six or more scheduled regular meetings within any consecutive twelve-month period, a closed-session hearing will be conducted to consider whether the office of such member shall be declared vacant.
