Cubs' Mills reached new heights while tossing no-hitter
On the way to his no-hitter in Milwaukee on Sunday, Alec Mills threw 114 pitches over nine innings.
It was his longest outing pitch-wise in the major leagues. His only other start with more than 100 pitches was his previous outing for the Cubs, when he tossed 102 over six scoreless innings in a win against Cincinnati.
"I feel good," Mills said before Tuesday's game. "I just got done throwing, so felt good today. Was definitely a little sore yesterday, but nothing out of the normal and felt really good today. So I was pretty pleased with how everything has bounced back."
Mills had only one previous complete game in his professional career. It happened in 2015 when he played for the Wilmington (Del.) Blue Rocks, a Single A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals.
"I think the other complete game I had may have been a doubleheader, so I think it may have been a seven-inning one," he said. "So this is definitely the furthest I've ever gone."
