Endorsement: Quigley in the 5th Congressional District

Rep. Mike Quigley has been a familiar face in the news in recent years, grilling Roger Stone about behind-the-scenes contacts with WikiLeaks, pressing Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson on access to homeless shelters for transgender people, questioning former special counsel Robert Mueller as a member of the House Intelligence Committee. Well-researched and insightful, his comments reflect well on Quigley and are a credit to the 5th Congressional District, which includes parts of Hinsdale, Oak Brook, Schiller Park, and Chicago's North and Northwest sides. Quigley, a five-term Democrat from Chicago, holds what we would consider to be sensible views on guns, human rights, health care and global warming. He sounds the alarm on Russian involvement in the U.S. democratic process and, in 2017, was among the first to point to Russia as the source of an Illinois State Board of Elections hack. On COVID-19, he said President Donald Trump hasn't done enough and faults the CDC and FDA for lacking scientific impartiality. His Republican opponent, commercial real estate broker Tommy Hanson, ignores the science on climate change and protection against COVID-19 and lacks well-argued views on other major topics. Quigley's is a voice we need in these times, and he has our endorsement.
