Wearing mask is an act of kindness to others

It is very concerning that DuPage County has been on an upward trend of COVID-19 cases since mid-June. I understand society is tired of wearing masks and not being able to gather with friends and family. But we must all do our part to flatten this curve and save small businesses from being shut down again and hurting our businesses and community.

I spoke with a business owner yesterday who is frustrated with customers not wanting to wear a mask, and wanted the Chamber's help to inform the public to wear a mask. Much like no shoes, no shirt, no service, which we were able to adhere to with no issues, it is now no mask no service. These high numbers represent people in our community; they are fathers, mothers, siblings, friends and neighbors. As a society we may have lost touch with the fact these numbers represent human lives. Wearing a mask is a small act of kindness, consideration and love to show to your fellow humankind; it is an act of humanity.

Though you may not agree that wearing a mask does any good or that you do not have COVID so you don't need to wear one. Science, doctors and history tell us it does make a difference. New mandates have come out to wear a mask while interacting with staff of any business, including restaurants, while you are at your table. As a society, if we could wear our masks in public, stay the 6 feet of distance and curb our gatherings, we could knock this COVID pandemic down to size.

Do we really want to spend 2021 in a mask?
