Scooter scare

I was almost run down one recent evening by a child riding a motorized scooter on the sidewalk on Lonnquist Boulevard in Mount Prospect. He rang his little bell but was moving fast and obviously just expected my sister and me to quickly get out of his way. The parents were riding in the street and got mad at me for correcting him.

I understand it's safer for kids to ride on the sidewalk rather than the street, but those who do need to be aware that sidewalks are meant for pedestrians, and wheeled vehicles have to give right of way. Judging from this family's behavior, they are not aware of that.

Someone could have been seriously injured.

Not sure what the solution is here, but it was very scary for me in more ways than one.
