Palatine newsletters go all online

The village of Palatine will have no more printed newsletters, starting with the fall newsletter now available online.

The plan for 2020 was to have four newsletters, one printed in fall - at a cost of about $17,000 including postage - and the others online, Deputy Village Manager Mike Jacobs said.

The move is about savings, but also the benefits of sharing information electronically, including being able to update information if needed, he said. The village, for example, just did that regarding early voting hours, he said.

Printed newsletters also meant a three-week lag from printing to delivery, Jacobs said. The immediacy of online newsletters is particularly beneficial during the COVID-19 pandemic, he said.

The number of yearly newsletters has varied, with three newsletters in 2017 and two in 2018 and 2019.

The village's first newsletter was in fall 1963 and remained the primary source of communication with residents until recent years. Now the village shares information through its website, a weekly online newsletter, its Facebook page, local Channel 6, and the Rotary sign downtown, he said.

The fall newsletter is available at palatine.il.us/ArchiveCenter/ViewFile/Item/1452. To sign up for the weekly PalatineE-Newsletter and more, visit palatine.il.us/list.aspx.
