West Dundee church continues 'Summer of Service'

First Congregational Church of Dundee continues its "Summer of Service" initiative.

One new project was a congregational food garden providing fresh produce to local food pantries or other local organizations that can get the products to those who need it.

All growing season long, the church welcomed volunteers to water, weed and harvest. More than 1,750 pounds of vegetables have been delivered to FISH Food Pantry in Carpentersville.

Inspired by the youth mission trips, church members and friends offered repair work locally. Crews of youth and adults come together for safe, outdoor projects, like lawn care, painting, simple repairs and other projects that make a difference. Church members also are participating in a visitation program for those who would like a friendly visit. Gifts to any of these efforts or any ongoing missions and ministries can be given at www.fccdundee.com/make-a-gift.

The church is livestreaming services on Sundays at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Aaron James, senior pastor, or the Rev. Paige Wolfanger, associate pastor. Worship includes a prayer, Scripture reading, a message and blessing via www.facebook.com/fccofdundee/ and YouTube channel.

Inspired by the challenge to grow spiritually and stay connected, Pastor Aaron and Pastor Paige are offering a new podcast, "Pod Be With You," featuring 20- to 30-minute explorations of a Bible passage, 6- to 8-minute "mini-sermons" and prayers for the day, and "Conversations," with important church voices, music and other special events. You should be able to find it wherever you listen or at www.buzzsprout.com/1192643. The pastors are also available for any pastoral care.

The church also hosts Hilltop Community Suppers, an outreach effort that offers a free meal on the second Tuesday of the month. The suppers are open to any community member who would enjoy a warm, home-cooked meal.

The next free supper will feature a pasta dinner offered as a "drive-through" and "to-go" meal on Tuesday, Sept. 8, from 5-7 p.m. from the parking lot driveway of the church via Beacon Street or while meals last. There will be no dining in the church building. Social distancing practices will be observed.

Freewill donations are gladly accepted to help sustain the meals and any additional contributions are accepted at any time.

"The Church on the Hill" is at 900 S. Eighth St. (Route 31 and Angle Tarn), West Dundee. For details, call (847) 426-2161, ext. 202, or visit www.fccdundee.com.
