Batavia United Way's auction to feature raffle for personal message from Steve Carell

All preparations for the Batavia United Way's Barn Party, a September evening of live music, bonfire, and fun fundraising at the Martin Family Farm, have been canceled due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The Batavia United Way board of directors and event sponsors were disappointed to cancel this popular and festive event. Proceeds were earmarked to fund grants for some of the 17 local nonprofits that offer important programs and services in our community.

To make up for the loss of fundraising, they are planning a virtual silent auction featuring a "Lake House Getaway" for four days and three nights, a "Walt Disney World Florida Hopper" for four to any park within Walt Disney World, a wine party, tailgate package, and more.

Batavia United Way also is pleased to be raffling a personalized video message from award-winning actor and producer Steve Carell made just for the lucky winner.

Just $25 will buy a chance to have this funnyman conjure up a video Christmas card, deliver a birthday or get well greeting, wedding proposal or other creation specifically designed for you!

One hundred percent of proceeds from this raffle will go right back into the community. The message cannot include commercials or business promotions, or "That's what she said."

Raffle tickets are on sale until the Facebook Live drawing at 8 p.m. Sept. 24.

Take a walk past the Batavia United Way's window display at PUREi (12 E. Wilson) in downtown Batavia to see all of the wonderful options.

The silent auction and raffle began Sept. 1 and closes on Thursday, Sept. 24. Auction bidding closes at 8 p.m.
