Cubs' Hendricks plans to get back to basics after rough start

Kyle Hendricks started the season with a complete-game shutout on opening night. After giving up 5 runs and 10 hits in Friday's loss to the Reds, his season ERA has risen to 4.09.

"I'm honestly just not in a good spot right now," Hendricks said after Friday's game. "Not making enough good pitches. I really just need to be better in general for my guys, keep us in the game, give us a chance to win. Over the last few games, everything has felt pretty good, I'm just making some bad pitches.

"It's just one of two things right now, I'm either a little too predictable. So when I do make a good pitch, they're kind of on it. Either being too predictable or I'm not getting away with the bad pitches I make. I've just got to reassess, get back to basics - simplify, get back to fastball commands, start with the building blocks and go from there."
