Fire causes extensive damage to Buffalo Grove home

A fire caused extensive damage to a Buffalo Grove home Wednesday.

The Buffalo Grove Fire Department responded to a single-family home fire in the 0-100 block of Dellmont Court at 12:51 p.m. The fire destroyed the roof and caused extensive damage to the attic, along with water and smoke damage to the second floor of the home. The house will be uninhabitable until it is inspected and cleared by Buffalo Grove Code Enforcement officials.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Upon arrival, firefighters noted fire and heavy smoke from the rear roof of the structure. The fire, which extended through the front of the roof due to limited access into the attic, was elevated to a box alarm at 1:13 p.m. due to the extreme temperatures outside. The fire was later elevated to a second-level box alarm. More than 20 area fire departments responded to assist.

Two adult residents were home at the time, but neither were injured. Additionally, three firefighters were evaluated on the scene with heat-related injuries, and two were taken to a hospital to be evaluated. No further information was available late Wednesday.
