GLENDALE HEIGHTS, Ill. (AP) - A fire at a suburban Chicago condo killed two people and injured a child, while three firefighters and a police officer responding to the blaze also suffered injuries, officials said.

Firefighters called to the scene Monday morning at the Waters Edge Condominiums complex in Glendale Heights found one of the buildings in flames. Several nearby fire departments helped the Bloomingdale Fire Department battle the flames, which spread to adjacent buildings.

Fire officials continued investigating what sparked the fire. Although officials did not release details, Deputy Chief Brandon Oliver of the Glendale Heights police department told WGN-TV that the call poice officers were responding to, 'œis what potentially led to the fire.'ť

Neighbors said they heard loud noises, possibly an explosion, from the unit before fire crews arrived.

'œI got to hear pops and pops and pops, you know, like something sparking in there was flammable,'ť Darius Jones, a resident at the complex, told WBBM-TV.

Neighbor Nae Hernandez says said she heard arguing before 'œsomething exploded'ť in a nearby living room.
