Stop the unnecessary slaughter of horses

Most animal lovers do not know that unwanted horses in the U.S. that are not humanely euthanized by their owners at home are shipped to other countries to be slaughtered for human consumption.

These horses are transported dozens of hours packed into cattle trucks and sent to cruel, painful deaths in Mexico, Canada, Europe, China, Thailand and other countries.

People assume the U.S. no longer slaughters horses. It is not true.

About 150,000 horses are humanely euthanized by their owners in the United States each year, but there are tens of thousands that are shipped out of the country.

Please contact your legislators to stop this hideous practice. Tell them to support the SAFE Act, which would stop slaughter and transport of horses out of our country. Equine rescues, private homes and others would step up to help these poor animals.

Don't let politicians on both sides of the aisle ignore it again. Demand an end to this cruelty.
