Aurora Central High bags tourney remembers late student-athlete

Aurora Central Catholic High School held a 15th annual bags tournament on Sunday, Aug. 16, to benefit the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society.

The tournament, in memory of late student-athlete Andrew "Dre" Heimann, included nine bags teams, down from 34 teams last year due to COVID-19.

Dre, 15, passed away Aug. 13, 2003, at Duke University Hospital in Durham, N.C., after a six-year battle with leukemia.

Dre participated on the Charger golf and basketball teams. He was also a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Aurora.

Puff Pizza food truck supplied refreshments and donated to the event. Sponsors were Heitkotter Inc., Aurora Luxembourg Club, and Ron L. Jakious Insurance.

Donations can be sent to National Honor Society at Aurora Central Catholic High School, 1255 N. Edgelawn Drive, Aurora, 60506.
