Watford hires Vladimir Ivic as new manager

WATFORD, England (AP) - Former Premier League team Watford has hired Vladimir Ivic as its new manager on a one-year contract, the club said Saturday, with an option for a further 12 months.

'Å“It's my first time in England and I need to adapt as fast as possible, to do the best for the club is very important to me," the 43-year-old Serb told Watford's website.

A two-time league winner in Israel with Maccabi Tel Aviv, Ivic also won the Greek Cup with PAOK.

Former manager Nigel Pearson left the club in July before the Hornets were relegated from the top tier after a five-year stay.

Ivic is Watford's fourth permanent manager in less than a year after Javi Gracia, Quique Sanchez Flores and Pearson during the season with Hayden Mullins overseeing the final two games of the campaign.

Watford starts its League Championship season on Sept. 12.
