Rosemont mayor takes reptile show online

In lieu of an annual kids fair, state Rep. and Rosemont Mayor Brad Stephens got to play the role of kid for a virtual reptile show that will be released online next week.

The 20th district legislator and longtime local mayor can be seen interacting with live reptiles and amphibians like frogs, snakes and lizards during two video segments that will be on YouTube and his district website starting Monday.

"Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic we had to cancel our annual kids fair," Stephens said in an announcement of the virtual reptile show. "However, we usually have the Traveling World of Reptiles at our fair to put on a show. I was happy to host this show, even though some of the animals were a little frightening."

Taped recently at Hofbrauhaus Chicago in the village's entertainment district, "Reptiles Go Virtual" will show Stephens holding some of the coldblooded creatures, while learning about some of their features from the experts.

Part one, which features frogs, snakes and spiders, will be released Monday at youtu.be/jbo-QTBX8pM. Part two, featuring lizards and tortoises, will be available Tuesday at youtu.be/BJourAOjwOM.

Both segments will also be posted to repstephens.com/reptile.

Stephens says he hopes to host the kids fair next year in person.
