President planted 'fake news' about election
The Friday, July 31, Daily Herald front page story of fake news was disappointing. Print journalism is expected to be credible and provide edited content reflecting significant news for readers. Carrying a story planted by the president designed to detract attention from significant national events takes space better used for true important news.
By this time it should be clear to Daily Herald editors, as it is to readers, the president routinely creates fake news. It is not worthy of attention other than to note it is fake and definitely not worthy of front page coverage. We expect better of the Daily Herald.
Real news to cover is the work done by the county clerk to advance a safe an open election for November with absentee voting signup open now online through the county clerk website, enrolling and training deputy voter registrars so people don't miss the opportunity to vote or stand in line on election day and PPE stockpiled for early and day of election voting. This is news worthy of coverage rather than noise about postponing the November election.
