Columnist's 'source'

I have read Walter E. Williams columns from time-to-time and have been skeptical about some of what he has written. The Aug. 5 article in the Daily Herald led me to do some research on what he quoted.

In his article "Reformers never tire of trying to revise American history," he quoted an unnamed source about the Taliban/ISIS offering to "send advisors to help Antifa and other far-left groups on how to erase historical artifacts." To me, that just sounded so extreme and unrealistic that I had to see if I could find the source of that quote, and I did. It came from The Mideast Beast, which is a satirical website. I copied and pasted from that site what it said about itself: "Whatever you read on TMB is totally fictitious and you should not take us seriously in any way, shape, or form. Clear? Are you sure? Good. Moving on…"

So, wouldn't you think a reputable columnist would either check his sources for accuracy or cite the source he was getting his information from so we could judge for ourselves if that information was legitimate or not.
