Police professionalism

I headed over to the Palatine Farmer's Market midmorning on Saturday, July 25. While there, a woman had a loud and profane outburst.

She didn't appear to be in her right mind but was yelling obscenities at the police and passersby. This was hardly the most difficult assignment for the police officers at the scene, but I was struck by their cool and calm reaction to such spiteful behavior.

As the police face unrelenting hostility throughout the country, this episode was a reminder of the difficulties, small and large, faced by police officers each day.

And significantly, it was a reminder that the overwhelming majority of officers handle such episodes with poise and professionalism.
