JourneyCare thanks Barrington area for 10 years of CareCenter support
The greater Barrington community deserves tremendous thanks for 10 years of supporting those who need it most – hospice patients facing the end of life – at JourneyCare's Pepper Family Hospice CareCenter.
The CareCenter at 405 Lake Zurich Road celebrates its 10th anniversary this summer and was born as a true community effort in support of the mission of JourneyCare, a hospice and palliative care agency that provides expert, compassionate care to the Chicago area and northern Illinois.
The $18.5 million, 16-bed facility was paid for exclusively through donations from supporters in Barrington, Barrington Hills, South Barrington, Lake Zurich, Deer Park and beyond.

JourneyCare president and CEO. “They support for the most vulnerable in their community, helping to create and sustain our state-of-the-art CareCenter that treats the body, mind and spirit for those facing the end of life.”
The Pepper Family Hospice CareCenter was only the fourth freestanding hospice in Illinois when it opened in summer 2010.
Since then, JourneyCare clinicians have served thousands of hospice patients whose acute pain and symptoms can no longer be managed at home and require around-the-clock care. In addition to providing expert clinical care, patients have access to an interdisciplinary care team that also includes social workers, chaplains and volunteers.
To create a home-like setting for patients, all suites offer their own patio or walled garden area and the 42,000-square-foot building sits on 6.7 acres surrounded by healing gardens. The CareCenter also offers a library, formal dining room, spa and suites that face a courtyard.
While the CareCenter has followed national and state safety guidelines is response to the COVID-19 pandemic in recent months, creating some visitor restrictions for patient and staff safety, typically patients can host visitors at all times. Even pets are normally welcomed for all patients.
As well as being animal friendly, the Pepper Family Hospice CareCenter was the first "green" hospice inpatient unit in Illinois and among just a few in the country. During its planning and construction, builders from Pepper Construction followed the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System.
The CareCenter was built partially from recycled materials and includes a retention pond to capture storm runoff; 75% of the building's spaces receive natural sunlight.
