Bartlett police accused two men of causing a disturbance at the Bartlett Commons shopping center during a fight early Saturday that allegedly involved property damage and one combatant driving over the other with a vehicle.
Jovani A. Vargas, 20, of Elgin was charged with Class A misdemeanors for criminal damage to property and battery. Jake Vanclaude McCalister, 21, of Hoffman Estates was charged with Class A misdemeanors for driving under the influence of alcohol, battery and reckless driving.
Bartlett officers responded to a report of a disturbance at the shopping center at 12:15 a.m. Saturday. After an investigation, Vargas punched McCalister, and McCalister punched and kicked Vargas during a fight in the parking lot area, police said.
Police said Vargas then punched and damaged the rear window of McCalister's 2012 Kia Sportage, and McCalister allegedly put his vehicle into reverse and drove over a portion of Vargas' body.
Vargas suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, police said.
Vargas was released on a $100 individual bond and McCalister was released on a $3,000 individual bond, according to police.
Their next court date is Sept. 1 at the DuPage County Courthouse in Wheaton.
