Several more charges in Aurora protest-turned-riot

New charges from the May 31 protest-turned-riot in Aurora have been filed against three people, one of whom already had several pending felony cases from the subsequent looting in downtown and at a Walmart, bringing the total number of people charged with felonies and misdemeanors to 30, according to court records.

Arrest warrants were issued last week for two people who previously were not implicated in the riot and looting.

Antwon L. Dismuke, 46, of the 1600 block of Northbrook Drive, Normal, is charged with felony burglary. He is accused of entering the Walmart at 2900 Kirk Road in the early morning hours of June 1 with the intent of committing a theft, according to Kane County court records

Cortney S. Humphries, 38, of the 0-99 block of May Street, Aurora, is charged with felony criminal damage to property of more than $10,000 but less than $100,000 on May 31. He is accused of breaking windows at First Midwest Bank, 2 S. Broadway St., Aurora, court records show.

Humphries also is charged with felony burglary on May 31 for entering Colima Jewelry, 4 N. Broadway St., with the intent of committing a theft, records show.

Jeffrie L. Highsmith, 28, of the 300 block of Evans Avenue, Aurora, was previously arrested on several felony charges. He is now charged with felony criminal damage to property between $10,000 and $100,000 at First Midwest Bank for breaking windows at the bank, records show.

Police declined to comment on the new charges. Aurora police are asking people with information about the looting to call the department's special tip line at (630) 256-HELP or to email tips@apd.aurora.il.us.
