Lincolnshire police to target speeding
The Lincolnshire Police Department will increase patrols to target reckless driving and speeding between July 24 and Aug. 3 as part of a campaign funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation, according to a news release.
Speeding violations typically increase throughout July and August, which increases the likelihood a driver will be involved in a serious crash, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Illinois is among the top four states for having the most speeding-related traffic crashes with fatalities.
Lincolnshire police said the residential speed limit in the village is 20 mph.
"Speeding remains a significant problem in our community. In fact, it is the number one complaint the Police Department receives," Lincolnshire Police Chief Joe Leonas said.
