Goya and tolerance
On Friday July 10,, Bob Unanue, the CEO of Goya Foods said "We are all truly blessed, at the same time, to have a leader like President Trump who is a builder and that's what my grandfather did. He came to this country to build, to grow, to prosper. And so we have an incredible builder and we pray. We pray for our leadership, our president and we pray for our country that we will continue to prosper and to grow."
Based on this statement, many are encouraging a boycott of Goya Foods. Mr. Trump is arguably the most divisive president in history and has said and done things that are reprehensible. However, there is an argument to be made that many of his policies have helped small businesses. While you may believe that Mr. Trump does not deserve any praise; that he has not helped small businesses, that the U.S. does not deserve to prosper and grow, or that we should not encourage praying, is this a reason to punish an entire family and destroy three generations of hard work over a difference in opinion? What happened to tolerance? Is this not the very definition of bigotry?
